Session 4: The AI Act Applied
Description
This session explores the AI Act’s regimes for AI systems with an intended purpose and General Purpose AI. Through practical, case based exercises participants will learn to understand when AI practices are prohibited, what the obligations along the AI value chain involve, and how the AI Act impacts their system and organizations.

Trustworthy AI Comprehensive will equip participants with the skills to look at AI from all angles: technical, ethical, legal and societal. Starting with the technical state-of-the-art of AI and its capabilities and limitations, it will dive into the ethical, societal implications of AI. Building on the fundamental rights implications for AI, the course will cover the Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI and ALTAI through interactive exercises.
The second half of the course will be dedicated to the EU AI Act, explaining its underlying foundations, objectives and scope. Through theoretical and practical approaches, participants will gain insights in how to classify AI systems according to the AI Act risk-pyramid, identify prohibited AI practices and understand the requirements for high risk AI. Also, the separate regime for general purpose AI will be explained and participants will receive insights into the GPAI Code of Practice.
Trustworthy AI is not just a box-checking exercise. It requires understanding of the technology’s ethical, societal and fundamental rights implications.
