Policy and Investment Recommendations for Trustworthy AI

The three founders of ALLAI, Catelijne Muller, Virginia Dignum and Catelijne Muller are proud to have contributed to the Policy and Investment Recommendations for Trustworthy AI.

Only 3 months after the release of the EU Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI, the High Level Expert Group on AI, today released its second Deliverable: the Policy and Investment Recommendations for AI, which contain over a 100 recommendations, focused at humans and society (including workers), the private sector and the public sector.

15 of the most eye-catching recommendations:

  1. Ban AI enabled mass scale scoring of individuals
  2. Refrain from disproportionate and mass surveillance of individuals
  3. Counter commercial surveillance of individuals and society
  4. Define red lines and discuss harmful AI in dialogue with stakeholders
  5. Apply the Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI to AI deployed by the public sector
  6. Provide information on the logic of algorithms and the data use in algorithmic decision making (ADM’s)
  7. Map and evaluate all existing EU laws that are particularly relevant to AI systems
  8. Adopt a risk-based approach to new AI regulation, and a precautionary principle-based approach for specifically risky AI
  9. Refrain from unjustified personal, physical or mental tracking, identification, profiling through biometric recognition
  10. Refrain from establishing legal personality for AI systems or robots
  11. Monitor and restrict the development of automated lethal (cyber) weapons
  12. Enable cooperation between civil society, industry, the public sector and research and academia around AI
  13. Apply worker representation, consultation and co-creation and address de-skilling
  14. Strengthen children in key human skills (problem solving, critical thinking, judgement, creativity, empathizing, etc.)
  15. Consider the volume of data or data advantages in the assessment of market power under competition rules
